MITCHELL INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL AUXILARY GYM

MITCHELL, IN

An Architectural intern experience with the firm VPS allowed for several opportunities to influence key decisions related to  K through 12 school projects. The highlighted project work is from an auxiliary gym addition proposal for Mitchell High School in Mitchell, Indiana.

Key roles for the project included development of interior space design (based on supervisor provided floor plans) and the exterior façade.

The site placement of the proposed addition meant that solar heat gain through large south facing windows could pose an issue.  The solution I proposed was the use of large branding banners that are designed with a material that allows for transparency from the back side (allowing students to look outward) but serving to block much of the sun’s heat.
